Diccionari bàsic del gènere de punt

The Diccionari bàsic del gènere de punt (‘Basic Dictionary of Knitting Technology’) brings together almost one hundred and twenty terms, which is expected to increase in subsequent years. The terms that can be consulted at the moment basically correspond to the areas General concepts, Knitting machinery > Textile machines and Knitted fabrics and structures.

Consequently, it is an ongoing work, developed by the Centre for Research and Transfer of Textile Technology of Canet de Mar - School of Knitting Technology (CRTTT), belonging to the Barcelona Provincial Council (which is carried out by the conceptual part), and by the TERMCAT Terminology Centre (which is carried out by the terminological part). To create this dictionary, we have used four main types of sources: final degree projects from the School of Textiles of Canet de Mar, UNE-EN ISO standards translated into Catalan, textile dictionaries and the knowledge generated by the School of Knitting Technology. It can be consulted in the Bibliography document.

Knitted fabric is the generic name that we give to a wide range of textile structures characterized by their elasticity. It is part of the textile family, the industrial sector that produces a fabric or cloth from a yam.

With this dictionary, therefore, the CRTTT and TERMCAT want to contribute to reclaiming the Catalan tradition of knitting and to making it valid for the present and the future, with the contribution of key meanings and complementary explanations and with the proposal of appropriate, agreed and functional Catalan forms in those cases in which they are not yet well established.

Each terminological entry contains the preferred denomination in Catalan and the corresponding synonyms, if any; equivalents in Spanish and English (often also in French and Finnish); a definition in Catalan and, in a large number of cases, also explanatory and relevant notes. It also includes the thematic area or areas each term belongs to.

Clicking on "Consulta de termes" (‘Term search’), terms can be looked up in three ways: using the alphabetical indexes (there is a different index for each language), using the thematic access or making simple or advanced searches in the upper space "Text de la consulta" (‘Text search’) in any of the dictionary languages.
