Terminologia de l'educació per a la salut

The Terminologia de l’educació per a la salut (‘Terminology of Health Education’) puts together around one hundred terms that are related to the health education and the educational methodology involved in it, with the aim of providing a common terminological framework. 

In the next few years, the different kind of transitions the health system must tackle —demographic, epidemiological, technological and socioeconomic— will constitute a huge challenge as regards to their capacity of ensuring good health results and an efficient provision of services, which should be able to generate an optimal patients’ experience. In this context, the empowerment and the skills of patients and their carers become key elements for the future reliability of the health services and, consequently, turn the health education into a priority for public policies.

On the other hand, the field of health education has gone through important innovations and reconsiderations, particularly because of the impact of the Covid pandemic and the technological implementations related to it. We find ourselves, then, in an ideal moment to update the terminology and conceptualisation of the pedagogical elements associated to the health and the health education fostering.

This is the aim of the terminological consensus that we are offering, which specifically focuses on terms related to general pedagogy and pedagogy applied to health, to pedagogical resources that are applicable in the field of health and to the impact of health education on individuals.

Each terminological entry contains its designations in Catalan and equivalents in Spanish and English. Each record is completed with a definition in Catalan and, in some cases, additional notes to expand the information of the definition.

This dictionary has been carried out by TERMCAT in co-authorship with the Catalan Ministry of Health. Conceptual advice from the Escola de Salut de l'Hospital Sant Joan de Déu de Barcelona has been essential throughout the entire process.

Therefore, the final outcome of this consensus represents a collaborative work of experts in the fields of social and health attention, pedagogy and emergent training methodologies. And, above all, it aims to be a reliable and useful reference for professional health carers whose work is related to the literacy, training and fostering of healthy habits and self-care skills for patients.
